Week of 3M Half-Marathon.

Sunday, I ran 30 minutes around the Zilker soccer fields nice and easy. Monday, it was cold and rainy and we ran from home to a hilly cul-de-sac road and did 6 x 3 minutes with 1 minute recovery. Surprisingly, i felt really good. It was MLK day, so it was nice to sleep late and get a decent workout in and do other stuff with the boys'. Tuesday, we met up with Duane and Rudy and ran the 7 mile loop at Townlake. It was much colder than i anticipated. Definitely needed some pants! Wednesday, we ran from home to the school track and did 6 x 300m. Then, we ran back home. It took us 25 minutes! Yikes, not much of a workout...oh well. Thursday, we finally got together with the group and did our 7 mile fartlek. This time only 10 x 60 sec. with 60 sec. recovery. I felt good and got a few great marathon tips from Fletcher. I think i might join his pace group for the marathon. Just hope i won't have any bathroom issues, because that's my biggest fear! Friday, i was getting ready to run errands and swallowed a few vitamins on an empty stomach. I got to the first store and felt really awful....i was about to get lunch, but it was too late. I barely made it home and lets just say, i worshipped the porcelain god all afternoon. I literally, had nothing left in my stomach anymore and felt that all my nourishment/strength etc. was going down the drain. It was very difficult to finally hold anything down.....but i managed some soup and crackers later the evening. Lesson learned...never take any vitamins on an empty stomach. Saturday, i felt okay and jogged around zilker with a few strides. The sun was finally shining and it was actually hot.
Sunday morning, 3M!!! I was a little more nervous than usual, not sure why. I guess, i didn't want any mishaps and run a nice, smooth race and not fade at the end. It worked out pretty good. I ran a few seconds slower than last year, but i do remember a really strong/icy tail wind that really helped me along. This year, the weather was perfect. I stayed within limits on the first half and really wanted to run the second half faster. For some reason, i was in "content" mode. A girl even passed me at the end and i thought...hmm, nice perfume. Not very competitive, am i? We actually had a nice chat after the race. She came all the way from Virginia to run this race. We did discuss this on the forum...being passed at the end. I guess i am falling in the category of letting them by, even encouraging them....geez, what's become of me. Too much mothering going on, i think?
